doTerra Essential Oils

A bit of an update: Shiloah and I have been doing some awesome things lately and as we learn to do these things we have sadly neglected our blog over here. These two things have been fun, interesting and scary all at the same time, but overall have brought about some wonderful changes and learning experiences. These two things are Energy Healing and Essential Oils.

Warning: I am going to do some shameless advertising!

Less than a month ago Shiloah signed me up for some essential oils. About six years ago I learned about homeopathic medicine and felt pretty loyal to those, until my children got into my kit and dumped about 75 of the 100 vials. Don't worry, if they ate any, they were fine, but most of them I vacuumed out of my carpet and swept off my desk. There are still some homeopathic remedies I love: Arnica, for bruises and injuries, Staphysagria for emotional upsets and Belladonna for fevers and infections. Then my mother in law walked into my house with her oils. I don't know how long she has used them, but it almost became an argument between us, me with my homeopathics and her with her oils. It never got ugly, but being the loyalist I was, I couldn't grasp the pull to oils that she had. I'm already super sensitive to smells, and I just couldn't handle some of the scents. Shiloah convinced me to try the oils, so I signed up for the Family Pharmacy kit from doTerra. I had already been directed by some other professionals that essential oils would help my kids with Autism, so I figured, it couldn't hurt to try.

I had my kit on desk. Collectively, they all smelled so good..almost like candy. I didn't mind just letting the box sit on my desk so I could enjoy the smells like a coffee table book sized air freshener. Shiloah had also sent me a book on how to use them. Just that morning I had been diagnosed with Pleurisy, a viral infection in the lining of the lungs. Well, what better time to try them out than right then?

The family kit came with five single oils: frankincense, lemon, peppermint, lavender, oregano, lemon, and melaleuca. Then there were four blends: Digestzen, On Guard (natural defense), Breathe (respiratory support...how convenient!), Deep Blue (muscle and joint support). I tried out the Breathe and within 30 minutes I was feeling my lungs drain and coughing very little. I used the On Guard to help get rid of the viral infection and after 3 days most of the Pleurisy symptoms were gone. I tried the Digestzen that night to replace my stomach medications for Celiac symptoms I have and I didn't need to take those medications for a week now. I also used the Deep Blue on Curtis for his back and shoulder. Within 30 SECONDS he had full motion back in his shoulder. Then he got a hold of the oils. He put lavender in the kids bath one night and they were all asleep by 9:00 p.m. I also used the lemon in rice one day, just two drops, and it was awesome! So, needless to say, I'm a believer now. Curtis had oral surgery on Thursday and we've been giving him lavender to slow the bleeding, which worked surprising well. He was able to return to work the next day, and while still in pain, I don't think it was as bad as he anticipated it to be.

For the Autism symptoms on my three kids, I ordered a separate oil called Vetiver, along with Grapefruit. Vetiver is to help with relaxation. I put this on Simeon who had been resisting working on reading with me, but after a few minutes of application, he sat right up and finished his work with me. Today he cleaned the entire playroom by himself. I'm in shock. For Hannah, who's mind runs 100 mph a minute, I gave her Lavender and that allowed her to slow down and concentrate. For Isaac I applied Vetiver as well, and also got similar results. The Grapefruit is to cleanse them (high metal levels), and I've not seen major results yet, but I do know that for now, I will continue giving it to Isaac as he now has some high liver enzymes from too high of dosage of one of his medications. I hear Balance (not in the kit) is also good for this.

So, in light of all this, I am a convert. I won't lie and say all of them smell wonderful. That Vetiver and Deep Blue are not my favorite smells, so I put it on their feet and make them wear socks. I also started using Grapefruit for my lymph nodes that had swollen from the viral infection but now I like using it because of the smell, which is sweet. I've gone one week without using any prescription drugs and I'm feeling pretty good!

Energy Healing

In October, our friend Aine, Shiloah and I all tried something. We found an energy healer and signed up for a session. It was, in short, the coolest thing I've ever experienced.

My extent of energy therapy was in Feng Shui. I started studying it about 10 years ago and found that there was some truth to it (be careful because some of it can get superstitious and weird, which are parts I choose not to practice). Some of the things I learned from Feng Shui was that most of the east facing houses Curtis and I have lived in have not brought us any good luck and somehow always have an issue with water. This isn't true for all people as there are specific numbers and directions for each person. We are not east people. It may come off as common sense, but yes, having clutter in your home does affect your energy and things that come to you. For example, if you are single and you can't understand why you're not meeting anyone, look around your house. Are most of your pictures displayed of single people? Depressing pictures? Things that would put off a potential partner? Removes those things and display items that you feel would encourage a partnership, i.e. pairs, pictures with two people in them, some color. There are hundreds of little things I learned and applied over the years that have changed some things for us, some of them a little hokey (like leaving the porch light on during the day so Curtis would attract a new job...and it worked), and some of them just seemed right and worked (like displaying a set of four purple goblets along a southeast window and we started getting some extra money). I think that these ten years of Feng Shui study were preparing me for what I would learn in Energy Healing.

Having always wondered about holistic medicine, it didn't surprise me when I started learning about chakras, laws of the universe, laws of attraction, muscle testing, and then applying what I have learned in the gospel of Jesus Christ, this latter having the greatest impact on my ability to accept energy healing. This wasn't approached on a whim. It took Shiloah about 3 years to accept doing a session for herself, and I made sure I fasted, prayed and got a blessing before I did my session. That was probably a little overdone before embarking on something, but I'm not about to mess with stuff that could potentially harm you. My session went well, and when we got done I felt great. There was nothing to fear and I had stressed out unnecessarily.

There are all kinds of Energy Therapy out there. Feng Shui, Hypnotism, Chiropractic care, Oils, blessings to heal the sick, Acupuncture, meditation, prayer, Yoga. All of these are a type of energy healing. Negative emotions will eventually lead to physical manifestations. When you clear the emotions behind a situation, you free your body to begin to be healed and you can move forward.

After my divorce, I went to see a counselor for issues with abuse, anger and depression. I lasted about a month in therapy. I felt like I was reliving the experiences, or talking in circles. I just wanted to put it behind me and move on. Sometimes the therapist picked up on something I mentioned, like a problem with my mother, or how overwhelmed I felt at the time working two jobs and going to school and being pregnant, and I would get frustrated and after a few weeks I stopped going. If I needed to rehash an argument I had with my mom, or vent that I was feeling overwhelmed, I would talk to my husband and couple close friends. I didn't need to pay 40.00 for that!! When I did my first energy healing session, the divorce came up, however, much to my relief, I didn't need to go into any specific problems or situations that had happened. She cleared the residue and emotions and then we moved on. Quick, clean, and not traumatic at all.

Shiloah and I have been practicing on each other for about two months. We started on our kids, our husbands, family members and then close friends. In another shameless advertising post, I would like to ask for 20 volunteers to do one session of Energy Therapy with either Shiloah or myself for free so that we can get some more experience. If you would like to do a session, please leave a comment with your email address or email me at happylittlemama@yahoo.com with information on how we can contact you.

Large Families and Reading

Okay, I admit it. I have years of practice on making excuses for myself. Even when I had just one kid I was still late for church and now I have eight and we still pop in just as they're singing the opening hymn. I try, I try. I'm so easily distracted. { See there is another excuse?! }

The last 4 years my goal was to start reading many books a year after reading piddly amounts---like 1-2. Anyway, each year I increase that amount and this year has been the most---ever. I'm quite proud of this accomplishment as I have eight kids and I'm sure you understand that for mothers free time is golden and sometimes rare. But, it has been a priority for me to give myself an education along side my children.

This year I kicked in the new year with the book, "Large Family Logistics" by Kim Brenneman. Well, I could have written the book. But, I didn't- Kim did and Kudos to her for finding time to do it! I'm still hoping to find a few NEW things that I haven't tried yet. I guess some of this stuff just really comes with experience.

So, here is my silly picture with the book and the duster I made. Oh, and my daughter Makenzie (9) informed me that I should have worn some make-up for this picture. Sweet.

On to more books....
